About City Builder Tools

Why this exists

City builders and colony sims are games about chains. Wheat becomes flour, flour becomes bread, bread keeps a district happy, and a happy district pays the taxes that fund the next chain. Most of the fun is in getting those chains right. Most of the frustration is in finding out, three hours in, that one link was short by two buildings. These tools exist to move that discovery to the start of the session instead of the end.

How a tool gets made

Each game gets its own small set of tools, built only where a calculator saves real effort: production ratios, worker and housing needs, upkeep and break-even points. Before a tool goes live, every number it uses is checked against a source, such as the game's official wiki, a developer patch note, or in-game data, and that source is stored with the number and listed on the page. If a number cannot be sourced, the tool does not use it. We would rather ship a smaller tool that is right than a bigger one that guesses.

How games are picked

We start with games people actively search help for, where the planning math is real and stable enough between patches to be worth a calculator. A game with a deep production chain and an active player base comes first. A game whose numbers change every week, or whose systems are simple enough to do in your head, does not need a tool from us.

Corrections

Games get patched. If a tool shows a number that no longer matches the game, the sources list at the bottom of the page shows where the number came from, which usually makes the fix quick. This is a fan project and is not affiliated with any game developer or publisher. Game names, logos and art belong to their owners and are shown only to identify the game each tool is for.
