Timberborn food and water calculator

How much food and water your beavers eat and drink per day, how many water pumps you need, and how many crop tiles feed them. Folktails and Iron Teeth.

On this page

Set your faction, population, difficulty and working hours. The tool shows how much food and water the colony goes through each day, how many pumps cover the drinking, and how much farmland each food takes if it were the only thing on the menu.

How the math works

Hunger and thirst are needs that run from 100 down to -300. Hunger drops 80 points a day and every food item a beaver eats restores 30, so a beaver eats 80 / 30 = 2.67 items a day. Thirst drops 70 points a day and every unit of water restores 33, so a beaver drinks 70 / 33 = 2.12 water a day. Easy difficulty sets food and water consumption to 40%, so those numbers drop to 1.07 and 0.85. Normal and Hard both use 100%.

Count every beaver, kits included. Kits have the hunger need too (starving slows their growth). Do not count bots: Timberbots run on biofuel and Ironbots on charging stations, and neither eats or drinks.

Pumps

A pump's daily output is its recipe output divided by the recipe time, times your working hours. The Water Pump (Folktails) and the Deep Water Pump (Iron Teeth) both make 1 water every 0.33 hours, so at the default 16-hour shift that is about 48 water a day, enough for roughly 22 beavers. The Folktails Large Water Pump makes 5 water per 0.33 hours with three workers, about 242 a day, which covers around 114 beavers. These are full-staffing numbers. A pump with an empty worker slot runs slower, and the Large Water Pump also slows down when badwater gets into its water.

Crop tiles

The farmland column takes the food per day, multiplies by the crop's days to mature, and divides by the harvest per tile. Carrots mature in 4 days and give 3 per tile, so 50 Folktails living only on carrots need at least 178 tiles. Bread needs far fewer tiles per beaver because one wheat becomes five loaves, but it adds a Gristmill, a Bakery and a steady trickle of logs for the oven. Treat the tile count as a floor. It does not include the time farmers spend walking, planting and harvesting, or fields that dry out during a drought, and most colonies split their food between several crops rather than betting everything on one.

Worked example: 80 Iron Teeth on Hard

80 beavers eat 80 x 2.67 = 213 food and drink 80 x 2.12 = 170 water a day. A Deep Water PumpDeep Water Pump makes about 48.5 water a day on a 16-hour shift, so drinking alone needs 4 pumps (3.5 rounded up). Fed only on Kohlrabieskohlrabi, they need at least 320 tiles (213 x 3 days / 2 per tile). On Corn Rationscorn rations they need 2 Food Factories (one makes 160 a day), about 214 corn tiles and 4.3 logs a day for the ovens. The calculator gives the same numbers if you enter 80, Iron Teeth and Hard.

Food and water questions

How much water does a beaver drink per day?

About 2.12 water a day on Normal and Hard (70 thirst lost a day / 33 per water), and 0.85 on Easy.

How much food does a beaver eat per day?

About 2.67 food items a day on Normal and Hard (80 hunger lost a day / 30 per item), and 1.07 on Easy. Every food item counts the same toward hunger.

Do kits eat and drink?

Yes. Count kits with the adults. Starving slows their growth by 40%.

Why does the pump count change when I change working hours?

Pumps only work during working hours, but beavers drink all day. Cut the shift from 16 to 12 hours and every pump makes a quarter less water, while demand stays the same.
